5. Jarrett Stidham – Auburn

One of the main reasons Auburn is in the national championship conversation is their fantastic defense. Another is Jarret Stidham. In his first year at Auburn he led the Tigers to the SEC Championship, a tough loss to Georgia, and some believe they should have got into the playoff over Alabama given they won the head-to-head matchup.

Stidham was amazing in Gus Malzahn’s offense, finishing with 3,158 yards, 18 touchdowns to just six interceptions. He completed 67.1 percent of his passes to lead the SEC last season.

The former Baylor quarterback picked up right where he left off in 2018, helping lead the Tigers to an opening week victory over top 10 opponent Washington. He finished that game with 273 yards and one touchdown.

The Tigers face No. 12 LSU and their tough defense this weekend. If Stidham wants to get into the Heisman conversation again, he’ll need a big performance.
