Texas A&M football: 5 players to watch vs. Alabama
By Jeff Shull
Texas A&M football travels to Tuscaloosa to take on the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide; here are five Aggies that will be key to an upset.
It will take one player’s heroics or a perfect team effort — only one of these two things will be enough for Texas A&M football to take down the mighty Alabama Crimson Tide.
Texas A&M entered the week as 27-point underdogs. The line has pretty much held on Oddsshark, with about 57 percent leaning towards Alabama. Their prediction is Alabama will win by exactly 27, so good luck with that.
The bottom line here the Aggies need a performance like they had in 2012 to overcome the dominant force that is Alabama. The Tide have scored 170 points and allowed 28 points through three games. That’s an average win of about 47 points per game. They haven’t played scrubs either. They opened with Louisville, then played Arkansas State (one of the better teams in the Sun Belt) and finally Ole Miss on the road.
Jimbo Fisher is still searching for his first big win as head coach for Texas A&M football. Judging by the spread, he’ll need a miracle to get it this weekend.
On paper, the Tide are incredibly talented. They recruited the No. 1 overall class according to the 247 Composite in 2015, 2016 and 2017. They came in at No. 5 for 2018, but judging by all that talent still in Tuscaloosa, most of those freshmen aren’t seeing the field anyways.
That talent is well-coached as well. Saban is the most respected coach in college football and has put himself on the Mount Rushmore of college coaches. Some consider him the best ever.
You can see why it would take a herculean effort to win on Saturday. For that to happen, these five players need to have huge games.
