Texas A&M football: 5 players who exceeded expectations in 2018
By Jeff Shull
Texas A&M had several players step their games up in 2018; here are five who exceeded their expectations during this season.
Jimbo Fisher’s first season was a roller coaster of emotions most Texas A&M football fans should be used to be now. However, given how much Fisher got the fanbase excited for the future with his dominance in recruiting and incredible sound bites at practice, it truly felt like the highs were higher and the lows were lower.
Roller coaster season doesn’t really begin to describe it.
However, it finished on a couple of high notes. The first of which was the incredible, exhausting, miraculous seven overtime thriller against LSU that capped off the regular season in a way no one saw coming. The Aggies were done multiple times, but just kept fighting back until they outlasted LSU with a two-point conversion in the seventh OT.
It was like two heavyweight fighters exchanging blows. By the end of the bout, it became about who would outlast the other.
The win meant the Aggies went undefeated in conference play at Kyle Field, something Kevin Sumlin never did. It also meant the Aggies finished second place in the SEC West. It also gave them a ton of momentum heading into the early signing period for recruiting, and gives them a chance to finish with nine wins for the first time since 2013.
There were good moments and bad, but we’re going to focus on some players who performed better than our expectations for them this year. The second high note for the end of the season was three players being selected to the All-SEC First Team, and another who won one of college football’s prestigious awards.
