Defensive Backs

4-star cornerback Erick Young
4-star JUCO cornerback Elijah Blades

Cornerback was once a position of ridiculous strength, but as with most every team’s recruiting period, there are ups and downs. At one point in time, the Aggies held commitments from Young, Jeffery Carter and Bobby Wolfe, all 4-star recruits. Carter de-committed in December and signed with Alabama, and Wolfe de-committed in October and signed with Arizona to join former Aggie coach Kevin Sumlin.

Fisher had another surprise up his sleeve as he got top JUCO cornerback Blades to flip from Oregon over the weekend. Blades and Ke’Shun Brown lessened the blow of losing Carter and Christian Harris to Alabama. Young and Blades should provide immediate help for a unit that struggled in 2019.

4-star safety Brian Williams
4-star safety Demani Richardson

Safety is going to be ridiculously loaded after a year or two of development, and could be a position to watch for transfers. After getting No. 75 overall recruit Leon O’Neal and No. 225 overall recruit Jordan Moore in 2018, Fisher secured No. 55 overall recruit Brian Williams and No. 67 overall recruit Demani Richardson.

There is only two safeties on the field in a traditional defense. Something will have to give, or a guy will have to change positions. Elko moved a safety to his “rover” position while at Notre Dame, and Larry Pryor got reps in practice as a linebacker, so that’s always on the table for one of these guys.
