Tyrel Dodson

This may have been the biggest surprise of the bunch. Dodson, who put up astronomical numbers in the 2017 season, saw his numbers decrease across the board in Mike Elko’s defense. Numbers almost never tell the whole story with a defensive player, and NFL scouts who turn on the tape will discover an excellent player with the tool set to play at the next level.

This is a big blow to the linebacker depth for next season. The Ags are losing Dodson and senior linebacker Otaro Alaka, who led the team in tackles and tackles for loss in 2018. Buddy Johnson replace Alaka (out with injury) in the Gator Bowl and had a nice game. Anthony Hines III was expected to contribute in 2018 before being lost with an injury.

Beyond that, there are no scholarship linebackers on the roster for 2019. Larry Pryor moved from safety to linebacker in camp and was a backup on the depth chart this season. The Aggies will be counting on one of the four freshman coming in.

Dodson absolutely could have come back and starred in the absence of Alaka. His draft stock went down this season.
