Wide Receivers and Tight End

It’s safe to say the wide receiver position for both the Cowboys and the Aggies was deemed a weak spot in 2018. With the Aggies being so young, there was so much unknown to the world about what this squad could do. Plus, once Kellen Mond’s favorite target, Jhamon Ausbon, was out with an injury, yet another new and young face had to emerge.

For Dallas, it was much worse. About a third of the way through the season, the Dallas offense looked as flat and one-dimensional as anyone else. Unless Zeke was having a monster game and Dak was playing perfectly, the wins were hard to come by.

Dez Bryant and Jason Witten were gone. Speedster Tavon Austin was injured and it looked like the Cowboys were maybe going to take Arizona State’s electric receiver, K’Neal Harry with their first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

THE ROAD AHEAD FOR THE AGS. light. Must Read

A change came for both teams. The Aggies quickly learned to spread the ball around. Breakout tight-end Jace Sternberger took over for Ausbon and became Mond’s go to target and it was Sir Kendrick Rogers the Dreadful that showed up to make the biggest of plays in crunch time.

I would be remiss if I did not mention Quartney Davis who had a wonderful bounce-back season recording the second most yards and receiving touchdowns for the Aggies this year. All in all, it looks like the Aggies have found themselves a diverse and electric receiving corps with even more youth behind them, pushing each other to become even better.

It happened a little differently for the Cowboys. It took just one trade to turn things around for America’s Team. Trading their 2019 first round pick to Jon Gruden’s Oakland Raiders was season-changing. The Cowboys obtained Amari Cooper for their pick and haven’t looked back since.

Since adding the Alabama product, the Cowboys are 7-2 and rank towards the top of the league in offense. Cooper almost immediately provided Dak what he needed, a true primary target, much like Sternberger was for Mond. The Cowboys have some youth as well. Rookie Michael Gallup is coming along nicely as well as the new found target in tight-end Blake Jarwin.

While they both arrived in two totally separate vehicles, both teams seem to have found their playmakers. Quality receivers are what any team needs to be successful in today’s offensive driven game. It looks like both teams are on the rise in their respective leagues with a bright future ahead of them.
