DeMarvin Leal, defensive lineman — Converse, TX

5 stars, .9920 247sports Composite rating

There was no question whether or not Keke Kingsly loved us. There’s also no question whether or not he will be playing on Sunday. The former defensive end for the Aggies absolutely tore it up at Senior Bowl practices and his draft stock is rose by the day. The same can be said for the former defensive tackle, Daylon Mack whose performance has taken Twitter by storm. With two NFL caliber defensive linemen departing for greener pastures, just like with every season, it’s next man up.

The Aggies have been known for their dominant defensive line in recent years and it seems that the trend is going to continue. There’s already a young core to receive the baton. Tyree Johnson and Bobby Brown were both able to contribute in 2018 and will look to expand their role and influence with the departure of Landis Durham and Keke. The interior will be lead by Justin Madubuike with Jayden Peevy looking to be the fourth lineman.

However, Peevy is going to have some serious competition in our next impact player, the No. 2 player in all of Texas, DeMarvin Leal. The Judson High School star received offers from programs like Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and Michigan just to name a few.

They saw the potential that this emerging star has, but luckily, he’s already enrolled at Texas A&M. The fact that Leal is enrolled early is huge. The opportunity to work out in college with your new coaches and build chemistry with your teammates is invaluable. It is a head start that not every athlete has, but one that can change the future of a team.

Film Review

When you take a look at Leal’s film, anyone can see that he has got what it takes to be a force right out of the gate. And in all likelihood, he will be. He is practically unblockable and even when someone does manage to slow him down, Leal still finds a way to disrupt the play. At 6’4” and already 290 lbs, one would think he may be a nickel soft. You would be mistaken if that is what you were assuming. Leal is anything but soft and he is anything but slow.

There are not going to be many pulling guards able to beat him to a hole and prevent him from making a tackle. Few guys have the lateral speed and agility that DeMarvin has, and if anything is true in the SEC it’s this: speed kills. Most guys have the power in the SEC, but it’s those with the speed to compliment that truly dominate. Take a look at Quinnen Williams and Myles Garrett. They’re strong, but their quickness is what put them at the next level.

Despite being a young’n, look for the beast from Judson high to be a key factor in the Aggies’ game plan. This guy is for real.
