Andre White, inside linebacker — Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

4 Stars, .8990 247sports Composite rating

As I said earlier, the sensational-but-underrated Tyrel Dodson has declared for the NFL draft and will be missed dearly. The Aggies were already thin at the linebacker position, so most were hoping that Tyrel would stay and maintain some stability and leadership at the position. Alas, that is not the case and someone new must fill the role.

Anthony Hines III will be returning in 2019 after a knee injury kept him out all of 2018. Buddy Johnson will definitely occupy one of the linebacker positions this season as well. This puts the third linebacker position up for grabs. An early enrollee, Andre White could very well be the next man up for the Aggies’ traditionally fierce front seven.

Watching his film he actually reminds me of his predecessor, Dodson. White has a nose for the football and flows to the ball carrier easily. He also drops back into coverage quite well and breaks to receivers quickly. Like a lot of naturally strong high school players, he wants to tackle a little too high, but that is a habit he will surely break this spring. Despite not being the highest ranked recruit, White still shows that he has what it takes to step up and make big plays.

College football analysts who follow Texas A&M have said that While is underrated, much like Dodson was as well. If White can come in and bring a sense of stability as Tyrel did, the Ags will be able to take a sigh of relief.

The fact that the Aggie recruiting staff reached all the way out to Pennsylvania to recruit White, makes me believe they see he can be who the Ags need him to be. Need proof? Skip to roughly 3:40 in the video at the top of the page to see White make a huge play in his state title game against many other division-one recruits.

Conclusion

With a bright young core, the Aggies future looks bright. The 2019 schedule may be incredibly challenging, but it is just another opportunity to prove themselves. Yes, 2019 may have a few dragons to slay, but 2020 and 2021 will be amazing to watch these elite recruits come into their own. Call me drunk on the Jimbo Kool-Aid, but I would not be surprised if a crystal ball was brought back to College Station within the next three years.

Honorable Mentions

  • Erick Young- 4 star Cornerback Richmond, TX
  • Brian Williams- 5 star Safety Dallas, TX
    • With the emergence of Leon O’Neal, there is simply too much depth at the safety position. He will play but may have to wait due to sheer depth.
