Texas A&M baseball: Aggie mid-season awards
Texas A&M baseball is in full swing now, (pun not intended), and the Ags are starting to get hot!
After a roller coaster weekend of the SEC opener, the Ags knocked off the #1 Vanderbilt Commodores two out of three games to take the series. Friday was tough loss and many thought the series was already ceded. But Olsen Magic made an appearance in a thriller on Saturday to change the tide as the third baseman John Ducoff was able to bring in centerfielder Ty Condel in the bottom of the ninth to walk the game off. A glorified batting practice on Sunday concluded the series as the Aggies sailed away with the 7-0 shutout over the black and gold.
However, the best news of the weekend might be that the Aggies have found their Sunday starter in sophomore Christian Roa. The Roa Constrictor won SEC pitcher of the week due to his Sunday performance. It was his longest appearance on the mound at seven innings in which he tallied seven strikeouts, only three hits, two walks, and gave up zero runs. One might say he puts the Roa in Road to Omaha.
The Aggie travel to Lexington, Kentucky this weekend to take on the Kentucky Wildcats. The overall record between the two teams is at 6-6, but someone will break ahead in this three-game series. With roughly half of the regular season in the books, it is time to give out some mid-season awards. We have a selected an offensive MVP, defensive MVP, and new-comer award. Let’s get to it.
