Texas A&M Football: 3 most important newcomers in 2021
Texas A&M Football Newcomer: Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers will serve as the surprise choice for this article.
For all intensive purposes, it seems like Haynes King will be the starting quarterback in 2021. He has more experience in the Texas A&M football system and the staff know what they can expect out of him.
That said, this is still a quarterback competition. King is far from wrapping up the job, and there are a handful of guys who will be playing their hearts out in spring ball to try and earn a spot. One of those guys is Eli Stowers, an incoming freshman.
Stowers was a four-star recruit out of Guyer High School in Denton, Texas. Much like King, he is an oversized dual-threat quarterback who can hurt you with his arm and his legs. He enrolled early, so he already has a leg up compared to what he was expected to do a few months ago.
In all likelihood, he will not win the starting job, but that doesn’t mean that his impact won’t be felt in 2021. Despite the fact that he’ll be riding the bench, he’ll be breathing down a first-year quarterbacks neck throughout the entire season.
Whoever ends up getting the start will have to be playing the best football of their career. Otherwise, Jimbo Fisher can simply throw in Stowers to take over.
Stowers presense will push every quarterback on the roster to play at a higher level, and maybe more importantly, he’ll turn a simple quarterback competition into an all-out battle for the spot.
