Texas A&M Football’s offensive line could be hit or miss

The sentence above probably doesn’t inspire a lot of hope upon first glance. Calling the offensive line, a unit that will determine the team’s offensive viability, hit or miss is a scary thought. But that’s the truth of the situation during this offseason.

There will be a lot of questions and not a lot of answers when it comes to this block squad.

But in my eyes, a hit or miss offensive line should be a positive. The Aggies’ offensive line has been learning behind one of the best O-lines in the country, at worst, they’re just average. It’s hard to see a situation where this unit regresses into a below-average group.

That said, Achane will benefit from an improved offensive line and could even benefit if the offensive line regresses. Here’s why.

Achane is a speedy tailback. His NFL comparison is Tarik Cohen and he will make money some day being a shifty guy who can break away in space. Isaiah Spiller, on the other hand, is not speedy. He’s the type of guy who can consistently get you good yardage. A volume runner.

The offensive line will likely regress, even just slightly, at the beginning of the season. This will negatively impact Isaiah Spiller, a guy who relies on getting his blocks up front. Achane, on the other hand, will thrive when having to dodge players early in his runs.

Obviously, he won’t want to get hit as soon as the ball touches his hands, but the Aggies may turn more to the world-class sprinter to help a young offensive line.
