The Texas A&M Football team fell just short of the College Football Playoff in 2020. After a convincing win in the Orange Bowl against the North Carolina Tarheels, they’ll want to take the next step in 2021 and make the College Football Playoff for the first time in school history.
A 4th-ranked finish to end last season should be enough to prove that they should have been given a shot, but they’ll have a lot of work to put in on the field in 2021 to get there.
The Aggies will have four new faces on an offensive line unit that was among the best in college football last year, so the offense will be a mystery. That said, the defense returns more than a handful of starters, so expect another stout defense in College Station.
The Texas A&M Football team has been given generous odds to make the 2022 CFP
After a season where they proved that they should have been given a shot to compete for a national title, the Aggies will once again start the 2021 season on the outside looking in.
In ESPN’s Football Power Index, or FPI, the Aggies come in at the 6th spot. This ranks them as the second-best SEC team to the Alabama Crimson Tide, the only squad that managed to beat the Aggies last season.
Alabama was given the highest College Football Playoff odds of any team listed with 76.3%. As the reigning national champions, this makes sense. The Texas A&M is not far behind though. And as Alabama is holding onto its untouchable status, the Aggies are breathing down Bama’s neck.
The Texas A&M Football team has been given a 25.8% chance to make the College Football Playoff in the 2021-22 season
There’s a long way to go before they reach this point, but it’s good to see Jimbo Fisher’s team finally getting some recognition in the preseason. The storyline of how well a new offensive line and quarterback will perform will give us a better idea of this team’s potential, but for now, Aggies fans should come to terms with the new standard in College Station.
Texas A&M Football is a contender.
