Texas A&M Football safety Derrick Tucker has entered the transfer portal

Derrick Tucker‘s story with the Texas A&M Football program is surprisingly similar to the previously mentioned player in Camron Buckley.

Tucker’s career would start out strong, as he would see instant playing time on the Texas A&M Football team. He had a really strong freshman season, highlighted by a pick-six against Ole Miss, his only interception of the year.

He would find his way into the starting lineup by his sophomore campaign but would struggle early in the year, forcing the coaching staff into the tough decision of benching him. He would never earn this playing time back, serving as a backup safety for the remainder of the 2018 season.

In 2019, he would still find himself on the bench, rarely seeing snaps. As a result, he decided to sit out for the majority of the year, preserving his redshirt by only appearing in eight games. Because of this, his transfer hasn’t come as a huge surprise.

This will also not have a huge impact on the Aggies’ performance in 2021, though it would have been helpful to have a veteran presence on the sideline. Aggie fans will wish him the best as he looks for a new home in college football.
