The Texas A&M Football team hasn’t been in the SEC for a long time. The Aggies joined in 2012 and stormed into Tuscaloosa, defeating the Crimson Tide in their first year in the conference. But then they would lose the next year. And the year after that. And the year after that. And every year up until present day.

For lack of a better term, Nick Saban has owned this Texas A&M Football program. He has owned virtually any SEC program that is forced to march down to Alabama to face them.

But this could be the year that things change, at least according to this quote by Jimbo Fisher during the Aggies’ Coaches Night on Wednesday, May 5th.

Texas A&M Football HC Jimbo Fisher had strong words about Nick Saban and Alabama

The Texas A&M head football coach didn’t just say that he was going to beat Nick Saban and Alabama — that would be far too boring. No, he said that he was going to, and I quote, “beat his ass.” The entire quote can be seen below.

Now, he said this in a joking way. Obviously, Jimbo Fisher wouldn’t outright disrespect a head coach who is 3-0 against him in his current tenure. That said, this was a joke that likely had a little bit of truth behind it.

It’s hard to imagine that Fisher, a coach who has won a national championship in the past, is satisfied with playing second-fiddle to Alabama. He won’t want to be that coach who only starts winning because Nick Saban retired from his post at Alabama.

Fisher mentions at the Houston TD Club that he wants to win while Saban is still coaching in Tuscaloosa. This would be a huge accomplishment and look great for a program that hasn’t reached that next threshold in nearly a century.

Thankfully for Fisher, if there’s a year that he can topple ‘Bama, it’ll be 2021. The two teams will face off in College Station on October 9th in a game that is sure to be one of the best in the country all season. The Aggies would make a huge statement if they were able to get the win this time around.
