The offseason can get slow, especially for a Texas A&M Football team that could potentially have its best season of all-time in 2021. In fact, the closer we get to the football season, the slower time seems to pass.
But every so often, something happens in the offseason to keep your interest piqued. In mid-May, Texas A&M handed out Academic Center awards, for players who excel on and off the field.
One award was given to Kenyal Perry, a womenβs basketball player who didnβt play much as a freshman, but should be a big part of the team down the road. Her acceptance video can be seen in the tweet below.
Texas A&M Football RS Freshman Layden Robinson was also honored with the award
The Texas A&M Football team was represented in the award ceremony, as Layden Robinson, a redshirt freshman offensive guard, was honored with the Award. Clearly, Robinson has been doing things right on and off the field and could be a hard worker that earns playing time down the road.
Robinson came to Texas A&M as a 3-star center, ranked 5th in his class at the position. Heβs an extremely strong blocker at the point of attack, with the skills and drive necessary to finish his blocks. He could easily become a starter for the Aggies, but it may take time.
He is listed as a guard on the depth chart but can play anywhere on the interior for the Aggies. At 6-4, 330 lbs, he has the size to play immediately.
Layden Robinson might not be one of the highest-profile players filling on the offensive line, but do not count him out. This year will see four new players fill roles, including both guard spots and the center position.
Even if Robinson doesnβt win the spot initially, there may be some moving parts on an extremely inexperienced offensive line that has not yet built any chemistry with one another.
Expect Layden Robinson to be a name that youβll be hearing about by the time his senior year rolls around. With an extra year of eligibility, heβll have more time than usual to prove himself on this football team.
