Texas A&M Football: Isaiah Spiller is the SEC’s best returning RB
When you look up and down through the SEC, you don’t find a team with quite as much returning talent as the Texas A&M Football team. The Aggies will lose some key pieces on their offensive line, but return the most important player from their offense a year ago.
That player is Isaiah Spiller.
Last season, Spiller rushed for over 1,000 yards and scored nine touchdowns on the year, cementing himself as a force in the SEC. In 2021, he could improve upon already impressive numbers from last season.
Texas A&M Football RB Isaiah Spiller could have a new opportunity next season
Before last season, Isaiah Spiller already had a strong season. As a freshman, he nearly cracked the 1,000-yard mark, reaching the endzone ten times in his first year in College Station. Even more impressively, he improved from that season with another great year, increasing his stats with fewer games to do so.
Even though Isaiah Spiller already has two great seasons under his belt, the best is ahead of him. Here’s why.
In the past two seasons, Spiller has been a huge part of the offense, leading the team in rushing yards and helping on the receiving end. But there minor changes on this football team offensively could open the door for a dominating season from Spiller.
In 2021, the Aggies will be starting four new offensive linemen, with a new quarterback under center. That quarterback will likely be Haynes King, though Jimbo Fisher could defer to the more experienced passer in the group in Zach Calzada.
That said, regardless of who wins the quarterback competition, one thing remains true — the Aggies will not be passing the ball as much in 2021. With all of these changes, they’ll likely turn to their reliable runningback in Spiller.
Expect the now-veteran tailback to be the source of this team’s offense while a new quarterback settles in. There are a lot of variables on this unit, but Spiller is arguably the only part of the offense that Fisher and the rest of the coaching staff know they can rely on.
It’s hard to see a world where Spiller isn’t considered one of the best runningbacks in college football in 2021 in a loaded Aggies runningback room.
His numbers should also see a significant bump, as the Texas A&M Football team will be playing at least two more games than they did in 2020. It should be a great year for the Aggies’ rushing attack, so jump on the bandwagon before it’s too late.
