The Texas A&M Basketball team is currently in the middle of one of the more unique offseasons in program history. Without signing a new head coach, existing head coach Buzz Williams has done almost an entire overhaul of the roster.
This includes bringing in a 5-star guard out of Plano, Texas in Manny Obaseki and a handful of transfer players, notably including former Duke Blue Devil Henry Coleman.
There will be a few returning players, but the team’s starting lineup could potentially look entirely different than it did a year ago. It’ll be an exciting year for TAMU basketball, and after a down year in 2020-21, there’s nowhere to go but up.
The Texas A&M Basketball team was listed as a top school for this Oral Roberts transfer
Over a week ago, a high-profile college basketball player in Kevin Obanor entered the transfer portal. The former Oral Roberts standout was well-known for his play in the NCAA Tournament, where he helped his team to one of the more memorable cinderella runs in recent memory.
The ORU forward averaged 18.7 points and 9.6 rebounds per game while shooting over 50% from the field. The guy made 46.3% of his 3-point shots last season. That’s not a typo, though I had to double check after reading the jaw-dropping number.
He’s an elite long-range shooter and can be a volume scorer.
In the NCAA Tournament, Obanor scored 30 points and 11 rebounds in a game where his team knocked out the second-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes. He’d follow this with a 28-point, 11 rebound performance.
Obanor is a guy who can step up when the spotlight is big, something that the Aggies didn’t have in the 2020-21 season.
On Sunday, Obanor released his top ten transfer destinations, listing Texas A&M as one of his top schools. The tweet can be seen below.

The other schools listed are Arizona, Oklahoma, Florida, Texas Tech, Creighton, Maryland, Illinois, Arkansas, and Alabama.
The Oral Roberts forward is originally from Houston, Texas, so the Aggies have a locational advantage on most of the schools listed. This would also explain the fact that he has two schools in his top ten that are based out of the state of Texas.
The big selling point for the Aggies will be the fact that he has a strong opportunity to get playing time, with a young team that will open the door for him to be a big leader and improve his draft stock.
Buzz Williams needs to make Obanor a priority if he hasn’t already, as he is the type of game-changing player that any school would love to have on their roster.
