Generally speaking, when we cover Texas A&M Football on this website, we take it pretty seriously. The Aggies are among the nation’s elite in college football, so things are strictly business from this point forth.

That said, somebody on Twitter took things outside of the normal serious Aggie fanbase. If you ran into this tweet, odds are, you took it seriously at first. Here’s what it looked like.

For those who struggle to catch on to this kind of thing — the quote is totally fake. I put that in bold because some people genuinely struggle to catch on. If you skimmed through it or only read a few sentences, the fact that it’s fake may not be abundantly clear, but as you deep into it, it seems more obvious.

The tweet starts out with a relatively believable sentence, claiming Jimbo Fisher stated that Texas should be happy with the situation that they’re in. It follows with a very sarcastic sentence talking about how calm, reasonable, and “not overly sensitive” Longhorns fans normally are. This is where things start to go off of the rails.

Fisher’s fake quote continues by detailing how Texas is the fourth-best team in the state of Texas and hasn’t won anything significant since George Bush was in office. He continues by talking about how the SEC has better teams than Kansas, talking about the hostility of the SEC.

At this point, virtually everybody can see through this tweet, which was a rollercoaster of an experience for fans. That said, this isn’t too far off from the realistic situation that lies ahead of the Texas Longhorns.

After receiving years of preferential treatment in the Big 12, they’ll be downgraded to the fourth or fifth-best program in their conference upon entrance to the Southeastern Conference. Each year will see them have to take on teams like Texas A&M, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, and a handful of other tough SEC teams.

Even though Texas A&M wanted to be away from the Longhorns, it’ll be a fun sight to see Texas struggle, at least in the early years of their time in the SEC. The Longhorns joining the SEC will also indicate the renewal of one of the most vicious rivalries in college football in Texas vs. Texas A&M. These intra-state rivals have hated each others’ guts for years, and this may have just sparked the rivalry back up again.

We won’t likely see any real quotes like this from Jimbo Fisher, but it’s fun to see a hyperbolic joke like this from time to time.
