The Texas A&M Football team has been, at the very least, consistent this offseason. Despite a quarterback competition which we haven’t learned much about, Jimbo Fisher and his team have been steadily rolling.

As a result, they haven’t moved much in virtually any rankings. You’d be hard-pressed to find Texas A&M anywhere outside of the 5-10 spots of any media outlets preseason top-25. This should be reflected on both the coaches and AP top-25.

in ESPN’s, which was released this week, the Aggies landed at the No. 6 spot in their staff rankings. Here’s what ESPN’s Dave Wilson said about why the Aggies were positioned at No. 6 in ESPN’s most recent top-25.

"The Aggies are coming off a season in which they appeared built for sustained success, particularly on defense. They’ll have to rebuild up front with four new starters on the offensive line and break in a new QB, but Jimbo Fisher feels good about those positions. ESPN’s FPI gives A&M a greater than 80% chance to win in each of its first five games before Alabama — which handed the Aggies their only loss last season — visits College Station on Nov. 9."

The Texas A&M Football team’s lack of quarterback and offensive line is not worrying anybody

To be candid, it’s a little bit surprising that nobody is worried about Texas A&M’s lack of experience on the offensive line, especially with a brand-new quarterback under center. That said, the Aggies’ depth at the wide receiver and runningback positions could be where the media’s confidence is coming from, as Haynes King or Zach Calzada will be surrounded with experience.

ESPN’s Mark Schlabach had A&M in the same position immediately after the season on January 11th, where he mentioned the Aggies’ remaining nucleus on offense.

"Tailbacks Isaiah Spiller and Devon Achane, utility man Ainias Smith and tight end Jalen Wydermyer give the Aggies a nice core of returning players on offense."

Perhaps the confidence comes from the fact that Jimbo Fisher, as well as the Texas A&M Football team, has been known to have strong quarterbacks under center. Think Jameis Winston for Fisher at Florida State. Johnny Manziel at Texas A&M nearly a decade ago.

If we’re being realistic, this Aggie team is not far off from a season that could catapult them into the national spotlight. This will likely be the first of many top ten preseason rankings that the Aggies will receive.
