The Texas A&M Football team continues to kill it on the recruiting trail, cracking another top prospect’s top-3 list this week. Texas A&M’s 2022 recruiting class is already ranked 7th in the country, giving Jimbo Fisher one of the brightest futures in college football.

On Friday, he came one step closer to tacking on another recruit.

That recruit goes by the name of Brenen Thompson, a dual-sport athlete out of Spearman High School in Spearman, Texas. Thompson plays wide receiver on the football field and recently narrowed his top schools down to a familiar three: Texas, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma State.

The Texas A&M Football team needs an elite wide receiver prospect to add to their 2022 class

For all intents and purposes, Texas A&M’s 2022 class is very well-rounded. There aren’t any major holes and Fisher has rounded off most of the team’s important positions, including quarterback, defensive line, and defensive back. Still, there is one hole in his class thus far.

Wide receiver.

The sole wide receiver in his class is Noah Thomas, a low four-star wideout from League City, Texas who, in fairness, is as underrated as he is talented. Thomas stands at 6-5 and could benefit from adding some bulk.

Brenen Thompson, however, is a completely different type of wideout. At 5-10 and 165 pounds, he’s a big-play kind of guy with more speed than he knows what to do with. He’s another guy who is physically lean with room to grow. Still, this is the type of player who could fill into an Ainias Smith-type of role in the slot.

Thompson is also a track star whose speed shows up on the football field. While some track stars are very mechanical runners, the Spearman wideout has natural athleticism that can’t be taught, much like A&M’s Smith. He’d be a perfect fit for the Texas A&M Football team.

Thompson also holds offers from schools like Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, and a quantity of other big-name programs.

Without a commitment from Thompson or another speedy wide receiver, the Texas A&M Football team could really suffer down the road, even if they have a lot of depth right now. Fisher needs to prioritize this player.

This is said to be another recruiting battle that will come down to either Texas or Texas A&M, a duel that the Aggies have had the edge in recently. Hopefully, Fisher can secure this high-level commitment and further bolster his 2022 class.
