Overlooked is not a word that you’ll hear often in reference to the Texas A&M Football team, a squad that checked in at No. 6 in the AP and Coaches Top-25 Polls. This Aggie football team is more hyped up than we’ve seen it since Johnny Manziel’s second season in College Station.

Hopefully, things work out better this time around.

Even though this same Texas A&M Football team isn’t overlooked as a whole, there are still a handful of players on the roster who are individually overlooked. Today, I’m going to be listing the five players that statement applies to most effectively, starting with a familiar face.

Texas A&M Football Overlooked Players in 2021, No. 1: CB Jaylon Jones

Overlooked may not even be the right word for Jaylon Jones, who came to Aggieland as one of the most hyped-up cornerbacks in a long time. It was well-deserved too, as Jones came in as the top-ranked safety in his class last season.

He made the “shift” to cornerback, though he was always a versatile player who swapped between the two spots in high school. In college, he didn’t disappoint, he just had the same learning curve that most cornerbacks have when they transition from high school to college. Still, Jones had an impactful season.

The 6-2 freshman had 30 total tackles in his first year with Texas A&M along with 6 pass deflections and an interception. It wasn’t a jaw-dropping stat line, but for a freshman in the SEC, it did turn a few heads. Apparently, however, it didn’t turn enough heads, as he wasn’t given any preseason honors this year.

In the 2021 season, it’s hard to see a world where Jones doesn’t take a huge step forward. Keep your eyes on the second-year cornerback.
