Texas A&M Football Overlooked Players in 2021, No. 5: RB Devon Achane

Maybe it’s the fact that Devon Achane will be playing behind one of the best returning runningbacks in the country in Isaiah Spiller. Maybe it’s the fact that he has only played in six college football games in his career.

Whatever the case may be, Devon Achane may be the most overlooked player on this Texas A&M Football team. The Aggie runningback hasn’t been around long, but he has managed to make a big impact on this team in a very short period of time. This came to the tune of a game-winning touchdown in the Orange Bowl.

Achane may not be the starter, but he’s destined to receive more than his fair share of snaps in 2021. This is, in part, due to the fact that A&M will have an almost entirely new-look offensive line, starting four new players. Under center, they’ll have first-year starter Haynes King taking snaps. As a result, they’ll be relying heavily on the running game.

This will give Texas A&M’s recently-discovered two-headed monster of a runningback a new opportunity to thrive. Who knows, maybe if Achane had broken out before the Alabama game, the Aggies could have kept things a bit closer.

Either way, Achane’s 8.5 yards per carry average is impossible to ignore, while his five total touchdowns in six career games is another impressive statistic. It’ll be easy to assume that Spiller will have the team on his back, but you’d be stupid to sleep on Achane.
