The Texas A&M Football team did get a convincing win against Kent State in their Week 1 matchup, but not everything about the game was entirely convincing.

Particularly in the first half, Jimbo Fisher’s squad looked shaky, to say the last. Nobody would have been surprised to see a close game against a feisty Kent State team, but the fact that the Aggies couldn’t get going on offense was worrisome.

Any hopes for a Golden Flashes comeback were quickly stifled by a dominant third-quarter showing from Texas A&M, but some nagging worries remained. Today, I’m going to be discussing the specific players who either struggled or didn’t show up and how they can improve.

Texas A&M Football Player No. 1: QB Haynes King

I thought I’d start things out with Haynes King, who had a better game than his stats would lead you to believe. King finished his first game as the starter quarterback of the Texas A&M Football team with two touchdowns and three interceptions. His interception total matched what Kellen Mond threw in the entirety of his final season in College Station.

Usually, this would be cause for alarm. Fortunately, this isn’t the type of situation that should lead one to panic. Here’s why.

For starters, King was working behind a brand new offensive line. This lead to multiple pass deflections that led to multiple interceptions. Pair this with the fact that the Aggies were actually bombing it deep more than most fans would expect and you’ve got a perfect recipe for a multiple-interception game.

Next week, King will likely continue passing at a high volume for a large yardage total while keeping the ball safer than he did a week ago. He’ll also be able to take advantage of a winded Colorado defensive line with his legs.

Expect a big week out of Haynes King.
