Texas A&M Football Player No. 3: DL DeMarvin Leal

DeMarvin Leal’s defensive player of the year season got off to a slow start, with the defensive lineman being overshadowed by a freshman Shemar Turner. Turner, by the way, was extremely impressive, getting in on two sacks in his first performance.

This, however, contributed to the fact that Leal’s name got lost in the shuffle. The hyped-up Aggie defensive lineman recorded five tackles, two of which were solo, and a sack. It was a solid game, and if he did it every week, he’d be in the national spotlight.

But in a single-game scenario, fans may have been expecting more. There’s good news here.

Leal is still one of the most talented defensive linemen in college football and he now has pieces around him that can threaten. With guys like Turner, who broke out in the Aggies’ first game, Micheal Clemons, who will be returning from a suspension, and McKinnley Jackson, who will eventually return from his own suspension, Leal’s best is ahead of him.
