Reason No. 2: The Texas A&M football team has one of the best coaches in the game, something the Longhorns won’t likely find soon

There’s no way around it — even Texas fans will admit that the Aggies made a home run hire when they snatched Jimbo Fisher away from Florida State. The national championship-winning head coach is unanimously a top-five coach in the game.

Fisher has led the Texas Aggies to three straight seasons of at least eight wins. In all three seasons, A&M has won their bowl game, including wins in the Orange Bowl, Texas Bowl, and Gator Bowl.

In fairness, Texas has also won three bowl games in this same stretch of time. That said, their ego may have taken a step ahead of them when they fired Tom Herman earlier this year. To this day, I will not understand this.

In all likelihood, they will not find another head coach who is as good as Herman in the near future. Steve Sarkisian had his team ranked as high as 15th in the AP Poll this season, but two straight losses gave them a path straight out of the AP Poll. They’re now unranked and the team looks like it has regressed from a season ago.

The coaching edge goes to Texas A&M and it’s hard to see a world where the Longhorns match them in that category in the near future.
