The Texas A&M football team is one of the most interesting college football squads this season. The Aggies have two relatively ugly wins on their resume — one to Arkansas and one at the hands of an underwhelming Mississippi State team.

On the other hand, however, they have arguably the best win of any college football team of the year, knocking off the first-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide a couple of weeks ago.

This begs the question — what other elite college football team could Texas A&M topple? Today, I’m going over three elite teams that the Aggies could upset if they played right now. Each of the teams listed will be ranked above A&M in the AP Poll.

Texas A&M Football, Upset Team No. 1: No. 16 Wake Forest (6-0)

I’ll be the first to admit that this isn’t the hottest take in the world — A&M would likely be favored if these two teams clashed today. That said, Wake Forest is on a small list of college football teams that are still undefeated. At 6-0, they don’t really have an extraordinarily convincing win. Instead, they’ve found a way to win each week.

The last three weeks have seen them get a blowout win over Virginia and close wins against Louisville and Syracuse.

Still, the talent gap between Texas A&M and Wake Forest is undeniable. The Aggies rank 8th in 247Sports’ Talent Composite, while Wake Forest ranks 65th. It’s bigger than any talent gap that the Deacon Demons have seen all season long. That said, if Kenneth Walker hadn’t transferred to Michigan State for his Heisman campaign, I’d find this to be a scarier opponent.

Wake Forest’s defense is pretty bad, ranking 91st in the country in total defense. Their offense isn’t really good enough to make up for it, at least not against a well-coached, talented team like Texas A&M. They rank 38th in total offense.

I think if these two teams faced each other today, the Aggies would be favored.
