Texas A&M Football Unsung Hero No. 3: DL Micheal Clemons

Again, it almost seems wrong to call Micheal Clemons an unsung hero on this team. The Aggie defensive lineman has been all over the field and alongside Aaron Hansford, gives this team a veteran presence in SEC play.

Clemons had a slow start to the year, recording just four tackles with no other stats to speak of in his first game. Since then, however, he’s been arguably this team’s best defensive lineman. At the very least, he’s been the most consistent defensive lineman on the team.

Since his slow start, Clemons has recorded at least one tackle for loss in every Texas A&M football game this season. On four of these occasions, Clemons had recorded at least a half-sack. He has recorded 3.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss on the year despite missing the first game of the season on a non-football-related suspension.

Clemons isn’t necessarily overlooked because of any fault of his own — he’s simply overshadowed by DeMarvin Leal, who is one of the best defensive linemen in the country. On the year, Leal has 8.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks, comparable stats to his counterpart in Clemons.

Again, Clemons may not get the recognition he deserves, but he’s a key part of the defensive line that held South Carolina to -15 rushing yards through three quarters on Saturday.
