Texas A&M Football Stock Watch, Player No. 3: LB Aaron Hansford

When you look at this stout Texas A&M football defense, a few names will pop out to you. One of those names is DeMarvin Leal, who is probably the most talented player on the entire unit. Your eyes may even turn to Antonio Johnson, a defensive back who is having a breakout year.

Johnson has an interception and leads the team in tackles. Well, he’s tied for the lead in tackles.

The player who he’s tied with isn’t getting much recognition, but he’s doing incredible work as a veteran linebacker on this team. That player is Aaron Hansford.

For the 2021 season, most of Hansford’s stats can only be described as modest. He has two sacks, a fumble recovery, and three pass deflections. These are all expected of any Texas A&M starting linebacker.

Where Hansford has been making his money (or lack thereof as a college athlete) has been stopping opposing ball carriers and wide receivers at the second level. The sixth-year Aggie linebacker has found himself in the right spot at the right time on virtually every play.

He doesn’t have any flashy statistics, but he’s been a rock for this defense. He took Buddy Johnson’s number (1) and has followed in his footsteps by becoming this team’s new leading tackler.

The final stretch of the season will be tough for this Aggie defense. It’ll require the team’s veteran players to show their maturity and nobody is more of a veteran than Aaron Hansford, who is in his sixth season of college football.
