Takeaway No. 2: The Texas A&M football team had/has an undeniably high ceiling

If I had to use a single word to describe the 2021 Texas A&M football team, it would be simple. The word that I would land on is “streaky.”

There were stretches where the Aggies looked like every bit of a College Football Playoff contender. Heck, three weeks ago, I would have told you that they could be the most complete team in college football outside of Georgia.

A few weeks later and the Aggies’ 8-4 record seems perfectly indicative of what type of football team they were this season. That’s not a shot at A&M, who struggled with the loss of a starting quarterback, starting offensive linemen, starting wide receivers, and starting cornerbacks — it’s just the truth of the situation.

One thing that remained clear throughout the entire season, however, is that Jimbo Fisher’s 2021 squad had, and perhaps still has an extremely high ceiling.

This Aggie football team had one of the best defensive lines in the country. There will be a couple of losses in Micheal Clemons and Tyree Johnson, but this defensive line will still be a force next season. The ceiling that we saw this year can only grow.
