Implication No. 2: 2022 could be more of a rebuilding year than many are anticipating

After a 2021 season that had a lot of hype, Aggie fans should approach the 2022 season with more caution.

A&M was a preseason top-six team. When I say top-six, I mean exactly six. After a 9-1 year and a College Football Playoff snub in 2019-20, this truly looked like the year that the Texas A&M football team would finally break through to the next level. They didn’t.

Instead, Texas A&M stumbled to an eight-win season with a handful of injuries dragging the squad down throughout the year. I’m giving an overwhelming amount of negative contest to make a simple point — Aggie fans should pump the brakes in 2022.

National Media probably won’t be as high on Texas A&M and neither should you. With the loss of DeMarvin Leal, the Aggies will be losing their best defensive player. They’ll also be losing Aaron Hansford and Micheal Clemons, two other key defenders.

That’s not even the end of the list either. To make a long story short, Jimbo Fisher’s team will be rebuilding to an extent next season, even if there are some existing stars sticking around.
