Implication No. 3: Texas A&M football fans will get to watch a new star emerge

DeMarvin Leal is leaving, which will leave a massive gaping hole in the Aggies’ defense. With a few other big players set to depart, A&M will be turning to some new faces to step up as stars on this football team.

Thankfully for Aggie fans, there may not be a more talented room full of defensive lineman than there is in College Station.

Just look at the most recent Aggie recruiting class, where each of the top two players are defensive linemen. In hindsight, this class created by Jimbo Fisher may have given Leal an easier decision to head to the NFL Draft. With talented players behind him, he did not stand to gain from sticking around.

That said, guys like Tunmise Adeleye and Shemar Turner are basically younger versions of Leal. Both are extremely versatile defensive linemen who are capable of shifting all over the defensive line. Interior or exterior — doesn’t matter. Both were top-40 recruits in their class and each one would be the most talented defender on over 100 other college football teams.

Next season, Aggie fans will be watching one of these two guys fill into Leal’s spot and the defense may not miss a step.

Oh, and I almost forgot — the top overall prospect in the 2022 class in Walter Nolen will be on the roster. It’ll be another good year for the defensive line.
