Texas A&M Football: Here’s what LSU was ready to offer Jimbo Fisher
The Texas A&M football team is one of the few teams in the country that has true stability at the coaching position. This stability, however, was in question earlier in the year when it was announced that Ed Orgeron would be relieved of his duties as head coach of the LSU football team.
Like clockwork, Fisher’s name was thrown into the mix as a potential replacement.
Fisher quickly rejected any rumors though, notoriously citing that he would have to be the “dumbest human being on God’s earth” to leave his current situation. Here’s the full quote.
"“We’re going to recruit an unbelievable class this year, so I’m either the dumbest human being on God’s earth who recruited all of these guys to come to A&M so that I can go over here and play against them. If I do that, you oughta say that’s the dumbest human being and I don’t want him as my coach.”"
Turns out, Texas A&M football’s head coach had a reason behind his emphatic response
This response by Jimbo Fisher can be described by quite a few words — confident, emphatic, and defiant are a few that come to mind. It’s not often that you see head college football coaches using such strong phrasing for virtually anything. As fans, we’ve become accustomed to seeing vague replies before a coach leaves his post midseason.
Fisher made sure that there would be no doubt in the mind of Aggie football fans. On Wednesday, news surfaced that would instill even more confidence in fans of the Texas A&M football team.
According to a report by Brett McMurphy, LSU was prepared to offer Fisher a very large sum of money. Here’s what McMurphy said in a tweet.
That’s not a typo — allegedly, LSU was going to offer Fisher the largest college football contract of all time. It’s unclear whether or not they ever actually offered it to Fisher, but it seems very likely that in contact with the A&M head coach to some capacity.
Again, it’s unclear if Fisher outwardly rejected $125M over eight years, but if he did, this is a great sign that he’s fully committed to the Texas A&M football head coaching slot.
There may not be another fanbase that can sleep at night knowing that their head coach will not leave for anything.
