Texas A&M Football 2021 Takeaway No. 3: Stars can’t carry the entire load of the team
One of the strange parts of the Texas A&M football team in 2021 is that it featured a true star-studded roster. Just look at the list of names below.
- Isaiah Spiller
- Jalen Wydermyer
- Kenyon Green
- DeMarvin Leal
- Aaron Hansford
That list holds two All-Americans and two players who are considered the top players at their position in the 2022 NFL Draft. It would seem like a stretch if I told you that a team with players who have that type of resume finished with four losses.
This proves a single fact — superstars don’t mean much if the rest of the team is incomplete.
The Texas A&M football team didn’t have a great backup plan at quarterback this year. Zach Calzada came in and beat Alabama and Aggie fans will forever be grateful, but he was never going to be a starter on a College Football Playoff team.
The Texas A&M football team has to find more balance next season. The offensive line has to stay healthy and have strong options all across — I don’t want to see a player like Kenyon Green sliding around to four different offensive line positions on the year.

In a sense, this was a positive, as Jimbo Fisher now has the blueprint for what will not work.
