In 2021, the Texas A&M football team had an unexpected player under center for the majority of the season. That player was Zach Calzada, a redshirt sophomore who had originally lost the quarterback competition in College Station.

Thankfully for Calzada, however, the player who won the competition in Haynes King dropped in game two with a broken leg. He wouldn’t return for the entirety of the season and while Calzada was not likely to retain the starting job in 2022, he was able to put together a really solid resume.

After entering the transfer portal a couple of weeks ago, Calzada has yet to decide on a destination. Here are three strong fits for the Aggie transfer.

Texas A&M Football QB Zach Calzada Transfer Destination No. 1: Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh may technically be off the table for Zach Calzada, as former USC quarterback Kedon Slovis announced his intent to transfer to Pitt earlier this week. We’ve seen schools bring in multiple quarterback options via the transfer portal before, so this isn’t the wildest thing ever.

That said, Calzada’s history with quarterback competitions may not bring out any confidence in him — that was likely why he departed Aggieland.

That said, the Cuban Missile was spotted following a handful of Pitt football players on Instagram recently, indicating that he was becoming close with the staff. This Panther football team would give Calzada a great opportunity to step into a role better fitted for his slower development.
