Texas A&M Football QB Competition, No. 3: True Freshman Conner Weigman

I’d like to reiterate that this will likely be a true three-man quarterback competition — just because Conner Weigman is ranked last on this list does not mean that he doesn’t have a chance to start. He may, however, have an uphill battle to the starting QB spot.

For starters, the step up from high school to college can be tricky for some players, even if they’re extremely talented. Schemes become more complex, causing some players to struggle to adjust. Just look at former five-star receiver Demond Demas, who barely played in his freshman campaign due to an uncomplicated high school scheme.

That said, Weigman won’t be that type of example — he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the country and is constantly attending camps. He was a standout at the Elite 11 and the only true adjustment will be to the Aggies’ playbook.

Out of all of the rostered quarterbacks for Texas A&M, Weigman was the highest-rated at the high school level. Generally speaking, this indicates that he has the highest ceiling as a college football player.

If 2022 is truly going to be a rebuilding season, Weigman might be the smart option here. That said, there are two other guys who will be fighting for the starting spot.
