The Texas A&M football team has had some recurring playmakers in recent years. Who will break out in 2022?

The Texas A&M football team has had similar playmakers for the past few seasons. Names like Isaiah Spiller and Jalen Wydermyer have owned the stat sheet for at least the past three years. Now, both will be departing for the NFL.

This opens up a big opportunity for some young guys who haven’t had the opportunity to step into a starting role yet.

That said, I’m also going to avoid the obvious breakout candidates — generally speaking, the players on this list will be guys who were already on the roster and could finally get an opportunity to shine. That said, the perfect candidate is first.

Baylor Cupp has not had the smoothest path to his fourth season in College Station. The Aggie tight end has found two of his three seasons ending in injury already, keeping him sidelined for most of the past few years.

Fortunately for Cupp, he’ll be getting healthy at the perfect time.

Longtime Aggie starter Jalen Wydermyer is off to the NFL Draft, opening up the starting tight end spot for Texas A&M. At 6’7″ and 240 pounds, Cupp could fill in and be a walking mismatch instantly.

Cupp was the top tight end in the 2019 class and will likely be competing with another top-overall tight end in Jake Johnson, incoming freshman. Senior Max Wright has also been in the running for some playing time, so this could turn into huge position battle.

That said, barring any unknown injury, Cupp seems like he should be in line to be the starter.
