Less than 24 hours after National Signing Day, Texas A&M football HC Jimbo Fisher just added another five-star prospect to his radar for the 2022 class. Okay, that’s not entirely true — one of the Aggies’ top 2023 targets reclassified.

That prospect is Lebbeus Overton, originally one of the best players in the 2023 class. Overton decided to reclassify due to his team losing its head coach and seeing a handful of turnover on the roster. Here’s what Overton’s father said about the situation, according to ESPN.

"“I would say just the last month or two, he kind of evaluated things after football season. His coach left, there are very few seniors left on the team … he wants to play for a championship.”"

If there’s a player who has been ready to reclassify, it’s Overton. The 6’5″, 265-pound defensive lineman has been tearing up the high school level and his team is losing a handful of players. Built like an NFL Draft prospect, the Aggie prospect would be welcome on virtually any college football team.

The Texas A&M football team already has a head start on Lebbeus Overton, who is set to commit sometime in April

Okay, don’t read too much into the sentence above — Overton has a very loose commitment time frame of April. According to ESPN, the family, “Overton will make a decision that the family anticipates will happen around April.”

Overton’s parents were both academic advisors, so the Aggie target would be in good standing to join the team immediately. The 4.0 student is a strong prospect on and off the field.

Overton’s top schools are currently Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, and your Texas A&M Aggies. Tough competition for Jimbo Fisher, who has out-recruited each of these schools at some point in the 2022 class. Can he do it again?

The now-2022 A&M target is a hyper-athlete, capable of playing multiple sports. Here’s a small snippet about him by 247Sports’ Gabe Brooks.

"Adequate height with great length (around plus-6) that translates to varying roles in multiple fronts. Ample snaps as an end and a tackle in a four-man front. Also has gotten reps at in-line tight end and plays basketball as well. Functional athleticism is obvious on tape and supported by encouraging testing in Summer 2020 and Spring 2021. Pursuit speed and effort stand out."

Things that stand out in his recruiting tape are mentioned in the above paragraph — natural athleticism and effort. Most high-profile prospects have the athleticism but effort and be an issue for some of these guys. That’s the upside to Overton’s in-class prowess — you know you’ll get a hard worker.

Last month, it was reported by TexAgs’ Billy Liucci that Overton was a “regular” in Aggieland, making frequent visits to Texas A&M. This should serve as a leg up, as A&M has been a hotbed for these types of prospects.

That said, A&M still has a long way to go before they earn a commitment from this elite prospect.
