Say what you want about the Texas A&M football team in 2021 — its defense was elite. Despite an 8-4 finish, primarily caused by a lackluster offense, the Aggies were not an easy team to score on. In fact, A&M ranked third in scoring defense in all of college football, trailing just Georgia and Clemson.

On the year, TAMU allowed just 15.92 points per contest. I cannot emphasize this enough — Jimbo Fisher’s team would have been a true contender with half of an offense. But will they be able to sustain that defense in 2022?

The primary stickup here is the losses on the defensive line for the Texas A&M football team. Virtually the entire defensive front will be departing, with DeMarvin Leal, Jayden Peevy, Tyree Johnson, and Micheal Clemons all departing for the NFL.

The Texas A&M football team’s incoming class of freshmen could be even better than the previous class

I don’t mean to beat a dead horse but there isn’t much else to talk about at this point in the offseason. The Aggies’ 2022 incoming class of freshmen is the real deal, there’s no way around it. For every position that loses a player, there is an extremely talented young guy ready to step in. Let’s take a look.

Out: DeMarvin Leal In: Shemar Turner

Leal is a tricky player to replace, as he was one of the most versatile defensive linemen in the country. If you’re looking for a direct replacement, Shemar Turner will likely be your guy. The five-star second-year Aggie played sparingly in 2021 but will likely be ready to fill into a more permanent role in 2022.

Turner will look to follow a similar career trajectory as Leal over his second and third seasons.
