Texas A&M Football: 3 best NFL Draft fits for Isaiah Spiller
The Texas A&M football team will be watching a handful of players depart for the 2022 NFL Draft. This list includes guys like Jalen Wydermyer, Kenyon Green, and DeMarvin Leal, all of whom could be potential first-round picks.
But one player is flying under the radar — a player who could have the flashiest career at the next level.
I’m talking about Isaiah Spiller, the Aggies’ top rusher from the past three seasons. Spiller likely will not be taken in the first round but he’s one of the top runningback prospects in the draft this year. Which team should take him?
Here are three of the best NFL Draft fits for Isaiah Spiller in 2022
Atlanta Falcons
In 2021, the Atlanta Falcons didn’t have much great runningback production. Their leading rusher was Cordarrelle Patterson, who will become a free agent, while there isn’t necessarily anybody ready to step in and replace him.
Isaiah Spiller would be sticking around in SEC territory and could join a team that hasn’t had a great runningback in a while. Spiller wouldn’t be joining any former teammates, but he would join Jake Matthews, a former Aggie and one of the better offensive linemen in the NFL.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
With the retirement of Tom Brady, the Buccaneers’ future is in question. What better time to draft a new quarterback-runningback duo? The Bucs have time to rebuild, which is why they may not hesitate to take the risk on Spiller. Along with the departure of Brady, Ronald Jones and Leonard Fournette will become free agents, leaving a big gap at the runningback spot.
This could be a potential opportunity for Spiller to earn early playing time in the NFL, as the Bucs may elect to spend a draft pick on a position that will be emptied out. This is one of the better coached teams in the league, so the former Aggie would be in good hands.
Houston Texans
I have to be honest with you — I don’t really think there’s much of a chance that the Houston Texans decide to draft Isaiah Spiller. They might be losing David Johnson and Phillip Lindsay to free agency but it’s hard to see them picking a runningback as high as Spiller — the team has more pressing issues.
Still, it’s a hometown team for Aggie fans, so consider this the “fun” option in this article. It’s not the most far-fetched thing in the world, while Spiller could join and become a workhorse back, something that the Texans did not have last season.
