Texas A&M Football: The unfortunate impact of Demond Demas’s arrest
The Texas A&M football team has been no stranger to controversy surrounding arrests in recent years. More than a handful of players have been arrested on marijuana-related charges in the past calendar year and most haven’t resulted in anything serious.
Unfortunately, somebody who was supposed to be a big-time Aggie contributor in 2022 might be in serious trouble.
The player in question is Demond Demas. Demas came into College Station as one of the most hyped-up wide receivers of all time out of high school. The former five-star recruit had modest numbers so far, accumulating 235 yards and a touchdown reception in his sophomore season after a question freshman campaign. Unfortunately, his time with the Aggies might be coming to a close.
Texas A&M football WR Demond Demas was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend
Sadly, this is not the first time that Demond Demas has had a run-in with the law. According to New York Post, this is his third encounter — here’s what Ethan Sears said.
"He was also reportedly accused of hitting a girlfriend last year, though the Brazos County district attorney’s office declined to press charges following an investigation, per the Chronicle. Demas was also arrested for marijuana possession in March 2021."
*The next paragraph contains graphic details
This time around, Demas is accused of “pushing the woman’s head into a wall during an argument and throwing her off a bed,” according to KBTX. This would result in her front teeth going through her bottom lip, causing bleeding and a hole in her lip. Demas allegedly did this in retaliation after his girlfriend bit him in the shoulder.
This is obviously a terrible situation, which ultimately resulted in Demas’s dismissal from the football program and suspension from the university. This time around, it doesn’t look like he’s going to be escaping the charges.
For the Aggie football team, there are a few major implications here. Most notably, Demas is an extremely tall, athletic wide receiver. This will be a massive hit for an offense that was likely going to see him, at the very least, approach a starting role. That will not be happening anymore.
This means that experienced players like Caleb Chapman or young guys like Evan Stewart or Chris Marshall will have to step up early.
