Among usual offseason changes, the Texas A&M football team will have a semi-overhaul going on throughout the 2022 season. Between 2021 and 2022, the Aggies will have to replace 12 major contributors on both sides of the ball. After a disappointing season in 2021, A&M will look to get it right this time.

As a result, a handful of positional battles are already in full swing as the spring game has passed. This past weekend, we got our first glimpse at these duels during the annual Maroon and White game.

Among these duels, we’ll see players competing for major playing time at important positions like quarterback, tight end, linebacker, and defensive line, among others. What does a full list of positional battles look like and who is competing in them?

Quarterback

The quarterback position is the most well-documented and arguably the most important on this list. As things stand, three players will be competing: Haynes King, Max Johnson, and Conner Weigman.

King won the starting job with Texas A&M last year, while Max Johnson is bringing over two years of starting experience from LSU. While Weigman has more raw talent than either, he has an uphill battle as a true freshman.

As things stand, this competition could go to any of the three guys. All three quarterbacks have been getting first-team reps thus far throughout the spring.
