Texas A&M football positional battles, continued…

Tight End

Following the 2021 season, the tight end spot actually looked relatively clear. After struggling with injuries, it looked like Baylor Cupp would be able to step into a starting role with the departure of Jalen Wydermyer. That would not be the case, as Cupp has entered the transfer portal, leaving him out of the race.

This seemingly turns the Aggies’ starting tight end positional battle into a contest between two true freshmen. Those two freshmen are Jake Johnson and Donovan Green. In some eyes, Johnson could be the favorite due to the fact that his brother, Max Johnson, could be in line to be the Aggies’ starting quarterback.

Senior Max Wright could also be in the mix, as he has earned constant playing time throughout his four-year career.

Right Tackle

The offensive line is actually pretty nailed-down. Despite the loss of Luke Matthews, who medically retired, Texas A&M returns four players who are set to enter starting roles. The one position in question is the right tackle spot.

This position looks like it will be filled by either Trey Zuhn or Blake Trainor. Zuhn came into College Station as the higher-rated player while Trainor brings a year of extra experience. This one could still go either way.
