When it comes to recruiting, there usually isn’t much bad news for the Texas A&M football team. The Aggies’ 2023 class is quickly picking up steam as summer approaches. Jimbo Fisher is looking to back up a 2022 class that set virtually every recruiting record imaginable.

But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows in College Station. In fact, in one instance, it’s quite the opposite.

On April 9th, the Aggies hosted a highly-ranked four-star wide receiver out of DeSoto, Texas. On paper, Johntay Cook looks like a perfect fit. The Aggie prospect is the eighth-best receiver in the 2023 class, according to 247Sports, and the seventh-best-overall player in the state of Texas. His visit, however, did not go well.

Texas A&M has virtually everything you could ask for in a college football school. A&M has great boosters and has evidence of a strong NIL presence. This Aggie football team looks like it could quickly become one of the best in the SEC.

But one player wasn’t impressed.

That player is the aforementioned Johntay Cook, who recently took a visit to Aggieland to help decide if he’ll be attending in 2023. It doesn’t look like his chances of going to school at Texas A&M are high, as the A&M prospect took a shot at the Aggies’ lack of trophies during his visit. Here’s what he said.

This, for obvious reasons, does not likely inspire the coaching staff to push hard for his commitment. If players do not believe in the system, why add them to the roster? His disrespect wasn’t limited to Texas A&M though — here’s what he said about Texas in an earlier visit.

"“All (Texas) got is swimming trophies and s***. No football trophies.”"

Current and former players at both Texas and Texas A&M have weighed on Cook’s disrespect, with former Aggie safety Leon O’Neal being one of the most notable. He quote tweeted the tweet above and said the following.

"I ain’t goin lie you gotta take that jersey off young bull…"

To put things simply, Cook may have just talked his way out of an opportunity to play at the best two football schools in the state of Texas. As a high school football player, you cannot be disrespecting prospective schools like that.

Next. Could history repeat itself for A&M in 2022?. dark

It seems unlikely that he’ll have his offers pulled but it’s hard to see Cook wearing either of the two jerseys that he threw shade toward.
