Texas A&M Football: This five-star QB could replace decommitment

Earlier in the offseason, the Texas A&M football team lost a commitment from the team’s most high-profile commit. That lost commitment came from Eli Holstein, who was holding down A&M’s future at the quarterback position.

Holstein could still re-commit to the Texas A&M football team but Jimbo Fisher will be competing against Alabama, Auburn, and a handful of other elite schools for this player’s commitment. At some point, he has to start looking elsewhere.

And as things stand, it looks like he’s doing that. This week, Fisher extended an offer to Jaden Rashada, a five-star quarterback in the 2023 class. Could he be Eli Holstein’s replacement down the road?

Calling Jaden Rashada a replacement for Eli Holstein is extremely premature — the five-star passer just earned an offer from Texas A&M. That said, he’s a player that Jimbo Fisher will surely pour a handful of resources toward in this cycle.

But it’ll be tough.

According to Sports Illustrated, the Aggie prospect could be in contention for the top overall spot in the class. Here’s what Matt Galatzan said about the California QB.

"However, despite all the other quarterback offers for the program, Rashada might just be the most talented of the bunch and will be in contention for the top spot in Sports Illustrated’s recruiting rankings this summer."

According to the same source, Rashada wants to be somewhere that feels like home. Here’s what he said.

"“Where I’m comfortable, where I feel is home. Mainly where I can see myself living, because you only have football for a portion of the time. Can my family see themselves visiting?”"

It could be tough dragging him from California to Texas.

According to 247Sports, Rashada is a five-star prospect, though they don’t have a specific ranking for him yet. Regardless, he is and will finish as one of the best prospects in the entire class. This will be a priority recruit for Fisher and company.

He doesn’t currently have a date scheduled for his commitment but has a full offer sheet of over 30 teams to choose from. This could be one of the more exciting recruiting situations in the country in the 2023 class.
