Texas A&M Football: Which Aggie is most likely to be a first-rounder?
The Texas A&M football team sent nine players to the NFL Draft Combine and, in all likelihood, will see most of those players drafted. According to CBS Sports‘ seven-round mock draft, every single one of these guys will be drafted.
In fact, prior to the 2021 season, many hypothesized that up to four of these Aggies could be taken in the first round alone. Now, that seems virtually impossible.
That said, there are still a handful of Texas A&M football players who could be selected in the first round, both offensively and defensively.
Texas A&M football players who could be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, ranked from least to most likely
4. Jalen Wydermyer
Jalen Wydermyer is somewhat of an honorable mention here — there’s virtually no chance that he’s selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. That said, he was considered a first-round-caliber prospect at a point.
Unfortunately, Wydermyer was another victim of poor testing numbers on the Texas A&M football team. That, combined with numbers that statistically regressed, has led him toward being a middle-round pick. Heck, even the aforementioned CBS Sports mock draft has Wydermyer falling to a late sixth-round position.
3. Isaiah Spiller
I guess I don’t need to say this anymore, as it applies to every player on this list — Isaiah Spiller was considered a potential first-round pick at one point. Spiller played very well, though the emergence of Devon Achane as the Aggies’ second runningback may have hurt his draft stock.
Spiller didn’t test terribly but his numbers didn’t jump off of the page.
This, however, is more of a tale of the runningback position. In actuality, Spiller has the potential to be the first ball carrier selected in 2022. Unfortunately, this rarely equates to a first-round selection.
2. DeMarvin Leal
I wrote an entire article detailing DeMarvin Leal’s draft stock drop, which could lead him toward being the biggest steal in the 2022 NFL Draft. The Aggie defensive lineman tested very poorly, much like everyone else on this list, and has seen his stock drop to second-or-third-round status.
That said, I actually believe that Leal has the highest ceiling of any player in this article. Heck, I think Leal could have the highest ceiling of anybody in the entire draft. As a five-star prospect in high school, he has always had that “it” factor.
Leal probably won’t be a first-round pick — it is possible though.
1. Kenyon Green
Much like DeMarvin Leal, Kenyon Green was a five-star prospect in high school. The Aggie offensive lineman has been nothing but elite since joining the team in 2019. Two All-American selections will attest to that.
Unlike a few of the players on this list, NFL scouts seem to agree with this one — Green is virtually a lock to be selected in the first round. As he has done his entire career, he should succeed at the next level.
If you were looking for an answer to who is the most likely first-round pick, Green is your answer.
