The Texas A&M football recruiting team has had a pretty up-and-down start to this cycle. They’ve been primarily targeting a lot of highly ranked recruits, and when you play that game, you miss out on a lot of prospects as well.

As the class stands right now, they are ranked 57th in the country according to 247sports. That is not good at all. However, they only have nine recruits, that being four four-stars and five three-stars. The quality of players they are securing is pretty good, with an average rating of 88.89, but they are just not holding on to these commitments.

Since their first commitment of the cycle, Jimbo Fisher has experienced thirteen total commitments. The big issue is that four of them have already decommitted. While Texas A&M is currently struggling to keep some of their top targets, there is some smoke around some top recruits that are currently committed elsewhere having interest in the Aggies.

Let’s take a look at some currently committed recruits that Texas A&M could flip in the 2023 cycle.

Four-star safety prospect Peyton Bowen has had a lot of talk around his recruitment lately, which is odd considering he’s been committed to Notre Dame since January. Up to this point, he has visited College Station quite a bit, including the pool party in July. Since April, Bowen has visited three times.

Now I don’t know if it’s just me, but that’s a lot more times than I’d be okay with from a Notre Dame perspective. He’s even had some pretty good things to say about the staff at Texas A&M:

"“I really like the relationship we have with (D.J) Durkin and the whole recruiting staff. And the education too, that’s really good, and the alumni base is strong” – Peyton Bowen"

What really sticks out to me is that he felt the need to mention the academics at A&M. As most know, Notre Dame is one of the most prestigious academic universities in the world, and the fact that he pointed out the schooling at College Station is interesting. This recruitment is expected to wind down quick, even before the school year starts, so expect a decision to come in the next two weeks.
