Texas A&M Football: 5 Aggies that could be 2023 NFL Draft picks
At number two, running back Devon Achane brings a talented skillset that could go fairly early in the NFL Draft. With a pass-happy league in the NFL, they are trending to using running backs in the passing game more and more. Achane can offer elite speed and burst along with soft hands, which can translate well.
The biggest weakness in Achane’s game is simply his size and lack of power. He doesn’t invite contact as much as you would hope from a lead back, so it would be difficult to see him as a starting running back in the NFL. However, he could shoulder a workload similar to Alvin Kamara or Tony Pollard in the league.
The 5’9, 185-pound ball-carrier was one of the most productive and efficient running backs in college football, so that stands for something. Averaging 7 yards per carry led the SEC last season and was just outside the top ten in the country.
Achane has the chance to rise up draft boards over the course of the season. Regardless of his size, a team will crave his elite speed, acceleration, and ability to force missed tackles. He offers a team an all-over-the-field weapon, who can change the pace of a game and provide home run plays consistently. He could easily go to a team in round two or three of the draft given his elite playmaking ability.
