The first official AP Top-25 poll is out and Texas A&M football is sitting comfortably in the top 10. After being ranked 7th in the first ACPA Coaches’ Poll of the season, the Aggies start at 6th in the AP poll.

This is now the fourth season in a row that Texas A&M football is in the preseason Top-25.

The Aggies finished the 2021 season just missing out on the AP poll, but now they start off among the best in the country. It appears that voters have confidence in Jimbo Fisher to take this team to the next level and compete for a College Football Playoff spot.

Texas A&M comes in ranked as the third SEC team in the poll, behind the obvious two, Alabama and Georgia. Alabama ranks first to begin the season and Georgia starts off at number three.

Behind the Aggies, three more SEC teams are found in the Top-25. Arkansas is 13 spots back at No. 19, Kentucky follows at No. 20, and Ole Miss follows again at 21. Tennessee, LSU, Mississippi State, Auburn, Florida, and South Carolina all missed out on the first edition of the poll, but also received votes.

The Aggies are sandwiched between Notre Dame and Utah this time around. Texas A&M received 1,212 points from voters, leading the Utes by 3 points and trailing the Fighting Irish by 30 points. They are behind Georgia by 232 points and are 864 points ahead of Arkansas, so voters seem pretty firm on giving the Aggies the third spot in the SEC to begin the season.

Assuming Texas A&M and Miami both take care of business in Weeks 1 and 2 against not stellar non-conference opponents, they will be each other’s first ranked opponents of the season. Aside from Miami, the Aggies have three other ranked teams in their schedule, them being Arkansas in Week 4, Alabama in Week 6, and Ole Miss in Week 9.

Only time will tell if this ranking suits the Aggies as they still have a handful of questions to answer throughout camp including who will start at quarterback. Despite these uncertainties, AP voters seem fairly high on Fisher and Co. this season.
