Texas A&M Football: 8 Aggies selected for Coaches’ Preseason All-SEC Teams
The Texas A&M football team keeps rolling in the preseason accolades. After being ranked No. 7 in the preseason coaches’ poll, the coaches are also showing respect to individual players on the squad.
On Tuesday, the Preseason Coaches’ All-SEC Teams were released, and 11 spots were taken by Aggies. Eight players makeup those spots, meaning two were selected for multiple positions (you can probably guess who).
On the first team, swiss-army knife Ainias Smith was selected as both the all purpose back and return specialist. He was the only Aggie to receive three honors as he was selected as a third-team wide receiver as well. Layden Robinson made the first-team offense as an offensive lineman, and Nik Constantinou was selected as the first-team punter.
The second team is more defense-heavy for the Aggies, starting with Antonio Johnson who made the team as a defensive back. Arguments can (and should) be made that Johnson should be on the first team, however, he has many other outlets thinking that anyways, so I doubt he cares that much. The same could be said about Devon Achane after he was named the second-team running back. Lastly, McKinnley Jackson makes an appearance as a defensive lineman in the second-team as well.
The third team consists of Aggies on the offensive side of the ball. Devon Achane was selected as the all purpose back. As stated before, Ainias Smith did make the third team as a wide receiver also. The offensive line was given more recognition as well, getting selections for Reuben Fatheree and center Bryce Foster.
Whether you agree with some of the selections or not, these are great forms of recognitions for great players at a great school. Johnson and Achane should’ve gotten first-team honors, but that’s neither here nor there. In the end, they are more focused on getting to that championship game than worrying about preseason awards.
