Texas A&M football recruiting is at a bit of a stalemate at the moment. Not much has happened since events following the July pool party, however, 247sports just released their 2025 initial Top 100 rankings on Wednesday.

You might be asking, “Why would I care about the 2025 class right now? It’s August of 2022?”. Well, in case you don’t remember, Jimbo Fisher already has a commitment in the 2025 class. It wasn’t recent either, this commitment came back in December 2021.

That player is elite wide receiver prospect Winston Watkins Jr. Watkins first visited College Station at a camp in June 2021. He left with his first Division I offer, that being from Coach Fisher. He decided to give the Aggies his commitment that December because he felt a great family atmosphere from the team.

Texas A&M football 2025 commit Winston Watkins debuts at No. 27 nationally.

The initial rankings don’t include five-stars, only four-stars. I assume this is only because they are sophomores in high school and it is extremely difficult to gauge who is deserving of five-star status this early in their athletic careers.

For Watkins, the cousin of former top-5 NFL Draft pick Sammy Watkins, he starts at No. 27 in the country. He ranks as the seventh-best wide receiver of his class and the third-highest rated player in the state of Florida. He is currently the highest-rated commit of the 2025 class.

The rising sophomore is from Fort Myers, FL. He’s listed at 5’10, 172 pounds and currently plays for powerhouse program IMG Academy. Despite his size, he is still regarded as a top-7 receiver in the nation due to his burst, ability to separate, and sticky hands. He also projects to be a return specialist at the next level.

There is still a long way to go in Watkins’ recruitment despite his commitment to the Aggies. We see players who commit this early decommit when they’re closer to starting their college careers all the time. He will continue to rack up D1 offers throughout his high school career, but for now, the 2025 Texas A&M football recruiting class is off to a great start.
